General rules
The Reddit EU Community Tournaments are not tournaments focused on prize pools. They are more for fun and community building – for reddit users to meet up with and test their skills against eachother. Please do your best to take any losses lightly – bad manners will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification as well as bans from future tournaments.
Every tournament will get a post on the front page of www.screddit.eu (referred to as “the info post” from now on).
The tournament will be a mix of best of 1, best of 3 and best of 5. The first map of each round is pre-determined. The following maps (unless you’re playing a best of 1) are loser’s pick, meaning that the loser of each map gets to pick the next map to be played. A map cannot be played more than once in a series. Information about whether a round is best of 1, 3 or 5 and what the first map will be visible in the top of the bracket page.
If you and your opponent agree, you may use an alternate map pick system.
Signing up
Signups open some time before the actual tournament starts. Check the info post for exact information on when the tournament starts and when signups open. Signups are done through Challonge – you will need an account there to sign up. Your username does not need to match your Battle.net ID.
Before the game
Once brackets have been finalized and you’ve got an opponent, add him/her as a friend in Battle.net and contact him/her. If you don’t get a reply, wait 5 minutes for a reply before contacting an admin – if your opponent does not show up for another 10 minutes you will get a freewin.
If you need to forfeit a match or need to leave soon, let your opponent and the admins know before the match starts. If you need to leave right after a match, you may only play the match out if your opponent agrees.
Any of you may host the game. If it’s OK with both players, observers may be invited. Players are allowed to pick any race they want, but if their opponent is picking the next map, they must announce the race before the map is picked. For example, if player A wins the first game in a best of 3, player B has the map pick. If player A wants to switch races at this point, he/she must announce this before player B picks the map. Random is considered a race in this context.
The casters must be present in all semi-finals, grand final and 3rd place games. If such a game is played without the casters present, admins may ask the players to replay it.
In the game
Obvious stuff: Do not cheat, use hacks, have observers tell you what your opponent is doing, watch the stream while playing. The rules regarding manners also still applies. If you suspect your opponent to do any of these things, contact an admin and be ready to upload replays and/or screenshots.
Any attempt at making your opponent leave the game (for example by typing ” has left the game!” and pausing the game) will lead to immediate disqualification.
After the game
Reporting results is easy as long as you registered an account on Challonge.com. You can either press the “REPORT SCORES” tab on the top of the Challonge page, or you can click the small question marks next to you and your opponent’s names. There, fill in the scores and press OK. You can also upload replays by pressing the small clip icon in the brackets.
IMPORTANT: Do not report results in a best of X series until all the games have actually been played! For example, if you’re playing a best of 3, don’t report anything until one of you have won 2 games.
Disconnects
In the event of a disconnect in the middle of a game and returns, simply right click the replay and select “recover game”.
If your opponent disconnects and doesn’t show up within 5 minutes, notify an admin. If he doesn’t show up for another 10 minutes you are awarded a free win.
Advanced map picking
If both players agree, you may use the remove/pick system to choose what maps are played. First, take turns removing maps from the map pool until there are as many maps left as is required to play a full series. If the series is a best of 1, eliminate maps until there’s one map left, then play that map. If not, there should be 3 maps left if you’re playing a best of 3, or 5 maps if you’re playing a best of 5. Now take turns picking maps – player 1 picks the first map, then player 2 picks the second map, then player 1 picks the third map and so on. Example:
Player A and B are playing a best of 3.
Player A removes Terminus SE
Player B removes Xel’Naga Caverns
Player A removes Dual Sight
Player B removes Tal’Darim Altar, 3 maps are left so picking begins
Player A picks Sanshorn Mist as the first map
Player B picks Daybreak as the second map
Shakuras Plateau is the third map, if needed.
If this system is used in a semi-final or final, please let an admin know and let him observe the map picking process either by doing it in the IRC channel or inviting the admin into a Battle.net chat between the two players.
